AW: [iaik-ssl] SSL-Package and NullCipher (HTTP)

Hello,

if your intention is to use the W3C HttpURLConnection instead the one
of Netscapeīs VM you may register a W3C http handler
(org.w3c.www.protocol.http.Handler).

If you are using JDK 1.2 you can specify the handler dynamically when
creating an URL object:

  URL u = new URL(null, "http://...", new org.w3c.www.protocol.http.Handler());

Note that any of your HTTP URLs have to be created in this way and that you need
not create a new Handler object each time, you can use the same for all URLs.

You alternatively may register the handler via URLStreamFactory; e.g. you may add
the W3c handler to the IAIK https factory in a way like:

  iaik.protocol.https.HttpsURLStreamHandlerFactory factory =
    new iaik.protocol.https.HttpsURLStreamHandlerFactory();
  factory.addHandler("http", new org.w3c.www.protocol.http.Handler());
  java.net.URL.setURLStreamHandlerFactory(factory);

This will register the handlers for any URL. However, JDK allows the factory to be
set only once. That means if you environment already has a factory installed for
some reason (as usually the case with Applets or Servlets) this code may not be used.
In that case you can only check the installed factory if it allows other protocols
to be added in some way.

Dieter Bratko

Betreff: [iaik-ssl] SSL-Package and NullCipher (HTTP)

Hi,

is it possible to use the IAIK-SSL package with a NullCipher to simulate
a normal HTTP connection via the SSL-package? (like the open-ssl does)
background is the buggy URLConnection implementation in the Netscape VM.

thanks in advance

Steffen
