It seems that your SSL proxy is configured not to allow connections to
the port you specified, it may allow only 443. You should have a look at
its configuration files.

Regarding certificates, SSL really only makes sense if you use a
certificate on at least the server side. If you are operating in a closed
user group there is no reason not to use self issued certificates like it
is done in our demos.
