Frequently Asked Questions

Please click on to their logos or links to visit their websites. If you are a customer, and you are not listed here, but would like to be, please send us your logo and your URL.

Q:

Do you really need an export license for us?

A:

We need to get an individual export license for customer, if you are situated outside the EU except of Australia, Canada, Japan, New Zealand, Switzerland, United States of America (for those the general export authorisation No EU001 is valid).

Q:

How long does it take until we get the product shipped after we order?

A:

This depends. We need to get some paperwork from you, which might take some time - if e.g. we require an import license from your country, or may be fast, if its simply a declaration you sign. As soon as we have all documents, we can apply for the export license, which typically takes about 10 days to get.We cannot guarantee any schedule, however! Therefore: please do not wait until the last moment to order our toolkit! If you want to ship tomorrow and order today it is too late (and contradicts our evaluation license most likely).

Q:

Can we get unlimited developers license without being required to get unlimited runtime licenses too?

A:

Unfortunately this is not possible.

Q:

Can we get a copy of the source code without buying unlimited developers licenses?

A:

Unfortunately this is not possible.

Q:

We have some special licensing requirements that do not fit to your standard license. What options do we have?

A:

We are open to negotiate special licensing terms with you. Please contact our sales team.

Q:

I don't understand what a server runtime license is. Please explain.

A:

Typically a server runtime license is either needed when running a service on a server-type-installation, or when providing applets and comparable things on a website. So if you develop programs that are run on a client computer (applet) or on behalf of a client computer (servlet), and where the number of client computers cannot be determined in advance, you need a server-license.

Q:

How many server licenses do I need?

A:

This depends. Basically, you require one license for each server your software is installed on. The number of server licences you need depends on the number of server names that hosts your application and the number of processors of the physical machine. If your server application is accessible through one server name which runs on one physical machine having one processor, 1 server licence of IAIK is enough. If you have more server names or more processors, the number of server licences you need is the number of server names multiplied with the number of processors. The number of Java™ virtual machines does not matter. If you have only one developer working with one of our IAIK toolkits, one developer licence is enough. For developer licenses, only the number of developers count who work with the IAIK toolkit.

Q:

What's an active component license? I can't find any information about those on your website!

A:

Active component licenses have been deprecated and replaced by server runtime licenses. We hope, this is less confusing.

Q:

Can I use runtime licenses which I purchased time ago together with developer licenses at Stiftung SIC, also for different future product purchases?

A:

Your runtime licenses are always linked with the corresponding developer license(s), they were purchased with. This means that in case you renew your licenses, you have to update your developer license, as well as your runtime licenses.

Q:

Can I use licenses purchased at IAIK also after the transfer of names?

A:

Yes, of course. The transfer of names from IAIK to Stiftung SIC has no influence on our licensing system.

Q:

What are the main differences between developer versus runtime licenses?

A:

Developer licenses:
These licenses allow you to develop applications based on our toolkits. You can choose between a limited number and unlimited developer licenses (depending on the number of developers within your company working with our toolkits). In case you purchase developer licenses at Stiftung SIC, you will then be able to download new product versions for one year. For further details about developer licenses, please have a look at our licence conditions.

Runtime licenses:
These licenses are non-exclusive, non-sublicensable licences to run the respective number of IAIK-Crypto software-based applications that have been developed by the Licensee under a developer licence. They are transferable to customers or other third parties, which means that if the customer or other third party acquires a certain number of licences for IAIK-Crypto Software-based applications from the licensee, the respective number of runtime licenses are transferred to the customer. If the licensee grants his customers an unlimited number of runtime licenses, the licensee also needs an unlimited runtime license from Stiftung SIC.
