AW: [iaik-jce] Using ISO 8859-1 characters in Distinguished Name

Hello,

with IAIK-JCE 2.61 you may use

Util.setEncoding("ISO8859_1");

for applying the encoding to be used.

Please be aware that the default AVA encoding type is PrintableString which
per definition does not allow such characters. IAIK-JCE does not check if
forbidden characters are used. You may set another encoding type by one of
the set(define)encoding methods of class AVA.
(However, even using PrintableString with "forbidden" characters might give
no problems since ASN.1 parsers may not be very rigid regarding the
character sets of string types).

regards,
Dieter Bratko

Betreff: [iaik-jce] Using ISO 8859-1 characters in Distinguished Name

Hi,

We are currently upgrading from IAIK-JCE 2.51 to IAIK-JCE 2.61 and have
encountered some problems. With the 2.51 release we could use ISO 8859-1
characters e.g.
	å, (small a, ring,, å, å)
	ä. (small a, umlaut mark, ä, ä)
in the CN of a certificate but when using the 2.61 release they no longer
have a Unicode numeric value when read back from the certificate.

Is this done intentionally or is it a bug?

Regards
Brian
